Petar Hektorović Theatre
The amateur theatre Petar Hektorović was founded back in 1880, on the foundations of the the 16th century theatre scene in the age of Renaissance poet Petar Hektorović.
The theatrical life of that time took place in open spaces (church performances), and with the establishment of the amateur theatre, on top of the permanent drama scene before and after World War II, the tradition has been successfully continued to this day.
Thousands and thousands of rehearsals were held and more than a hundred plays were brought to life. From 1973 to 2011, 28 premieres and hundreds of performances were held in front of numerous audiences.
In addition to its performances, participation in meetings, festivals, and guest appearances, the theater also proved to be very successful in organising the gatherings of the theatre amateurs of Dalmatia as well as the Festival of Croatian Theater Amateurs.
In 2013, a new generation of theater amateurs, assembled at the Petar Hektorović Amateur Theatre, gave an excellent performance of Fisherman’s Quarrels by author Carl Goldoni , which was performed three times in the Stari Grad Theatre in just two months.
