Faros Marathon
The Faros Marathon is a long-distance swimming competition which has been held since 1976 in the Stari Grad Bay (Starogrojčica), starting at the New Kabal Cape (orig. punte o’ Kobla). The first Faros Marathon winner was the legendary Veljko Rogošić, and till today the biggest names in long-distance swimming have taken part in the Marathon.
The Faros Marathon grew from a small provincial competition to a world-class institution of long distance swimming, and one of the most prestigious marathons in the world. As a testament to this fact the competition was introduced to the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 2012, making the Faros Marathon the first Croatian sports manifestation to enter the Hall of Fame. The founder and initiator of the Faros Marathon is our fellow citizen Vicko Šoljan.
This legendary manifestation takes place at the end of August/ beginning of September, and is accompanied by a series of entertaining events – another good reason to visit our town!
